Senior Men

The senior men’s squad is for experienced rowers, and aims to compete at a high level at major competitions across the country. The squad includes those who have learnt to row at school, other clubs and previous years’ novices from SUBC. We have recently produced successful crews at the major head races on the London Tideway, at BUCS events and at Henley Royal Regatta, as well as other regattas.

The squad typically trains on the water between 3 and 6 times per week, in addition to land training including ergos, weights and cross-training. The time commitment required from the senior squad is high, but the programme is flexible to allow everybody to fit in rowing along with their academic work. The squad receives excellent coaching from volunteer coaches who are present at virtually all water sessions.

Most returning members of the senior men’s squad will attend pre-season training in Southampton at the end of September, a UK-based winter training camp near Christmas and a foreign training camp in the Easter vacation. These training camps allow us to develop rowing technique in a more focused environment and also to socialise and relax away from the pressures of university.
