Senior Men's Coaches:

Bob Douglas: One of the legends on the Itchen, Bob has been involved in the sport for over 45 years. He is Senior Coach at BTC Southampton. Over recent years he has additionally spent time coaching the Senior Men at SUBC. He is an ever-present during morning outings and Wednesday afternoons averaging around 12 hours a week with us. He has taken numerous crews to championship victories at all levels including Senior Champ wins in the South Coast Championships over the past 10 years. He has also coached crews for Henley Royal Regatta. Bob's coaching qualifications vary from winning the Coach of the Year Award to taking courses in Sports Injuries and Core Stability (amongst others).

James Bracey: James is a very successful coach having had good results at Henley Royal Regatta, National Schools Regatta and BUCS regatta with various clubs and crews in the past two decades. He has coached at a high level, including GB juniors and has helped athletes reach the international stage and row in the Blue Boat. James began coaching at Southampton in October 2010 and had a successful first year, qualifying Southampton for the Temple Challenge Cup for the first time since 2008.

 

Senior Women's Coach

Mike Beresford: Mike started coaching at SUBC in 1974, coaching the men's squad for 21 years before moving to the women's squad in 1995. Mike rowed internationally for 7 years in coxed and coxless fours as well as in eights. During these years he won a European silver medal, a Commonwealth gold medal and was placed 5th in the coxless fours in the 1960 Rome Olympics. He held Olympic and European records in the coxless fours and a Commonwealth Games record which stood for 28 years. He rowed at HRR over a period of 13 years, being finalist in the Thames Cup, Stewards Cup, the Goblets and Grand Challenge Cup, winning the Grand once, and the Stewards twice. He has rowed in the HORR nine times with 5 wins. During his time with SUBC he has been instrumental in helping many students to the full potential. A number of students both male and female have gone on to represent GB in Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games from 1985 to the present day.
