Reading University Head is always one of the favorites for SUBC and this year was no exception with great weather and amazing racing. The squads relished the opportunity to watch some world class elite rowing including the Oxford Blue boat before the upcoming Boat Race.
The event was a success for our crews as well setting some fast times in a cross tail wind. The novice men doubled up racing both IM38 in the morning and Nov8’s in the afternoon. The boys finished with a time of 15:43.3 in the morning and 15:32.9 in the afternoon, getting faster all the time and building up for BUCS regatta!
The senior women continued their strong season setting a time of 16:02 in IM28’s coming 6th in a strong field. This sets them up brilliantly for Women’s Head of the River in a weeks’ time. The Novice women also had a good regatta with the first 8 coming 4th in WNOV8’s and the second 8 coming 8th in the same category. Big expectations for these girls come regatta season!
The senior men unfortunately continued their run of bad luck this season with a blade snapping early on in the race. Despite this the boys finished the race, a testament to their determination and spirit. It’ll be good to see what this crew is capable of come the Head Of The River.
Overall it was a great event to attend and on behalf of everyone at SUBC we would like to thank the organisers for putting on such a well-run, professional event.
For now…. Bring on the tideway heads!!!
